A Little About Myself

Well, let me start off by saying I am not a blogger. My talents have always lied in drawing and not in writing. In my senior year of high school I had my girlfriend (who is now my wife) help me write my senior thesis to ensure that I would get a good grade and I use the word help very loosely. So that being said, please excuse any grammar, spelling, and or just silly typographical mistakes I may make in the course of writing in this blog.

Now little about myself, I am a thirty-something year-old old father of four. I have all boys, which from time to time can be a little challenging, but always rewarding. My 7 year-son is autistic and he is the bravest person I know. He fights every day to be understood and he does it with a smile. My other boys show me every day how to be a compassionate human being as they never treat their brother any differently but they are always understanding to his disability. I have been married to my wife for almost 12 years and I can honestly tell you that I can’t imagine my life without her. She is my rock. She works a fulltime job and then comes home and takes care of me and the kids and in all this time I have never heard her complain (at least not to me or the boys). She is intelligent, beautiful, funny, and one of the most interesting people you will ever meet.

I am a professional building designer which pretty much means I specialize in residential home design. For the past 10 years I have worked with some fantastic architects and designers and I have learned so much from them. Lately I found myself in the unique opportunity of starting my own firm. In today’s economy (especially with the housing market) this may or may not be the wisest decision, but choices are limited and this is the path in which I find myself. As scary as it is to start your own business, I find myself more excited than scared. Working within other firms I have not always agreed with the business practice or the service that the clients have been given. So like every new entrepreneur, this is my chance to do things the way I believe they should be done. Whether that’s the business plan, what services to provide and how to provide them, or just the philosophy of what a home should be and how to achieve it (which to me is the most important, but not always the most profitable), there are no limits to what I can do.

This blog is an attempt to better myself. Not only the writing aspect but to get some of these ideas out of my head. The old Greek and Roman philosophers would write for hours and hours everyday, not only to share their ideas but to work them out and that is what I hope to do here. Hopefully over time I will have people contributing to the conversation because other views and other ideas are not only enlightening to me but to everyone.

I hope to post about home design topics very soon.

I hope this post finds you well!
Adam
